TAHEA Mwanza joins with all Tanzanians and the wolrd as a whole in the commemoration of the Day of the African Child which in the Mwanza Region will be held at the Furahisha grounds in Ilemela Municipality on 16/06/2023.

The origin of this commemoration is a Resolution adopted by the former United African States (OAU) in 1990 with the aim of remembering the children of the Soweto township in South Africa who were killed on June 16, 1976 due to apartheid.

The children were demanding their rights to not be discriminated against, along with other human rights, including the right to get quality education and thus oppose discriminatory education systems. Following this event, the OAU decided that June 16 of each year would be the Day of the African Child.

“This year’s slogan is PAY ATTENTION TO CHILD SAFETY IN THE DIGITAL WORLD”

Through this commemoration, the Government and other stakeholders are reminded to prepare solid plans to develop children and to promote the awareness of parents, guardians and society about the solution of the challenges facing the children of Africa and to find solutions.

In addition, this commemoration is an opportunity to evaluate the implementation of National Policies concerning the development of children by providing them with appropriate services including health, education, protection and quality education in order to inherit various skills and national values for the benefit of them, the family and the nation as a whole.
