In Buhunda village, early pregnancies among girls are often rooted in deeper systemic issues—poverty, lack of parental involvement, and unchecked exposure to digital content. Two community elders shared their concerns:

“Girls get pregnant early because parents don’t follow up on their school progress. Many families can’t provide basic needs like snacks, so girls end up in relationships just to survive.”

“Children now have mobile phones. They use them to watch sexual videos and romantic movies. These things stimulate them. Some girls engage in sexual activities to get money for phones and other needs, hiding it all from their parents.”

This story reveals how economic hardship and digital exposure—without guidance—can lead girls into risky situations. TAHEA Mwanza addresses this through parenting education, digital literacy campaigns, and school-based mentorship that help families stay connected and girls stay protected.
