Bezi Island is one of 45 streets/Mitaa where TAHEA Mwanza is implementing Early Childhood Development (ECD) programs in Ilemela Municipal.

The intervention started in 2012 with a baseline study, followed by the formation of microfinance groups and the construction of a day care centre in 2013 and a primary school in 2015.

In 2019, TAHEA introduced mobile clinics to help bring closer health services to the people on the island because there are no health facilities.

The nearby health centre is located 40 km at Sangabuye. With support from Better Way Foundation, three (3) mobile clinic sessions were provided this year, reaching a total of 138 adults and 197 children under 5 years.

The services provided to children were vaccination, growth monitoring, and diagnosis, while adults were provided with general health check-ups (diagnosis), Family planning, Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (PID), Voluntary Counseling and Testing for HIV/AIDS, and Tuberculosis. Antenatal Clinic staff, doctors, and Nurses from Ilemela Municipal Council provided the mentioned services.

This collaboration inspired the Ilemela Municipal Director Mr. Paul Wanga, through his speech in one of the health technical meeting appreciated TAHEA for these efforts and urged his team to include in the 2020-2021 health budget some funds to continue providing mobile clinics on quarterly basis as the Municipal is working out a long term plan of constructing health centre in the island and provision of fast ferry to easy transport for the people in the island.
